Currently, I work as a freelance field producer, where I fix, produce and conduct interviews for different media organisations. This interview, for a Channel News Asia documentary, was one of the last with local lawmaker Claudia Mo in her Legislative Council office, after the pro-democracy camp quit en masse to protest Beijing’s tightening fist over Hong Kong’s legislature. Here are some project examples: CNA Insight: ‘Milk Tea Alliance: Asia’s Youth Unite For Democracy’ / CNA Undercover Asia: 'The Moral Dilemma for HK Police’ / Arte TV: ‘Le Presse Dans Le Viseur’

From 2017 to 2020, I was Deputy Executive Producer for Thomson Reuters’ Broadcast Solutions team, where I helped launch an English nightly news show for its client ViuTV, and was one of its the main presenters. I also presented daily market reports and produced feature stories for other Reuters clients. For example, TRT World: Challenges in HK's MeToo Campaign

Prior to that, I was with Hong Kong’s biggest TV station, TVB, for about seven years, where I managed the local English news team and covered many major events, from the Brexit referendum to HK's Umbrella protests. I was also sent to Taiwan for the Sunflower protests in 2014; unbeknownst to many who were amazed by the Umbrella protesters’ organisational skills later that year, they were in fact inspired by the Taiwanese.

It’s always difficult to fight for time and resources for enterprise stories between assignments, but I’ve always enjoyed a good challenge. My report about the refugee plight in Hong Kong broke the story in local TV media, which helped the issue gain traction in society.

I have also done a fair share of business news reporting over the years. In 2019-2020, I produced and presented a weekly, half-hour talk show on Hong Kong International Business Channel; most of the time I actively sought out topics and guests outside of the neoliberal mainstream to bring to the forefront issues that I believe matter in the long term.

Occasionally, luck will strike and give me an opportunity to present reports like this one for Al Jazeera’s Earthrise. It brought me on travels along the Yangtze River in China, to meet the incredibly intelligent (and cheeky) river porpoise, and the people working to save them from extinction.
